    The Newspaper Association of America has issued Lifelong Readers: Driving Civic Engagement. The report concludes that teens exposed to newspapers, either during current events discussions in school or online, are more likely to be engaged in their communities. It offers advice on how newspapers can keep teens reading.

    Roanoke's city government is taking on a new approach to boosting the region's young adult population by trying to "friend" them. The online offensive includes opening accounts on MySpace and Facebook, and posting videos on YouTube, with Stuart Mease, the driving force behind Roanoke's quest for attracting young professionals, leading the charge.

Well it may not be easy, especially if you live in a state where redistricting has lead to ultra-safe seats for incumbents. A group of computer programmers at the University of Southern California developed a videogame to explain the process and show constituents how to win.

    As reported by the Guelph Mercury, the town of Guelph, Ontario (pop. 114,943) hopes to draw residents into the planning process with GuelphQuest, a Sim City-like affair. The game allows players to experiment with future development without investing money or a great deal of time.

    This is a peer-to-peer informal learning & teaching online initiative that offers online courses on community development, business, health, and the enviornment. Youth teach the courses, youth take the courses. The mission of the initiative is to empower youth to help themselves.

    CivicWeb is a project that focuses on the range of youth-oriented civic & political sites now emerging on the web & the potential of other internet based civic activities for youth. The research focuses on three key dimensions: 1) production of such sites 2) content & formal structure 3) uses & interpretations made by different social groups of youth & connections to offline civic participation.
