    Turkle talks about 2 jobs of adolescence - autonomy (defining boundaries of self) & intimacy - & how they are impacted by digital media. Always on connectivity makes autonomy difficult, & true intimacy may be undermined b/c teens use tech to avoid the risks involved in confronting others f2f. Turkle also notes that Erikson said teens need stillness for reflection in order to form their identities.

    The mission of the Puget Sound Off (PSO) is to provide youth with a forum for discussion, artistic expression, and action as a way to empower and encourage youth to have a strong voice. The project aims be a catalyst for increasing youth involvement and engagement within the community while encouraging expression of one's beliefs, respect for others, and commitment to public service.     Daphna Oyserman, a social psychologist at the University of Michigan, asked inner-city junior-high children in Detroit what kind of future they would like to have, what difficulties they anticipated along the way, how they might deal with them and which of their friends would be most helpful in coping. After only a few such exercises in life planning, the children improved their performance on standardized academic tests, and the number who were required to repeat a grade dropped by more than half.
