Interesting website with newspaper articles and letters about the American Civil War (Both Confederate and Union newspapers, abolitionist papers, even personal diaries and letters). There are images of the actual newspaper pages and then the site actually has re-written each article's text for actual use. Not the easiest to navigate, but once you get the hang of it, the resources are pure gold.

Annotated Narratives from American Slaves interviewed between 1936 and 1938 by the Work Progress Administration. Narratives are fairly short, but website refers to a larger collection.

It looks a little sketchy, but it has a lot of primary documents and links to research.
